An ambient-air in-storange paddy drying system for small scale Korean farms was developed and teste. Tris dryer consists of a rectangular container, an air distribuition system and a centrifugal fan. The system can be incorporated into either new or existing structures. When drying is finished the container can be used for storange purposes or as a machine shed. Depending on the dimensions of the container and the depth of the bulk, the loading capacity ranges from 3 to 5 t, which allowes application to fam sizes of 0.5 to 1.0 ha. Tje dryer can constructed by the famers themselves or craftsmen using locally available materials. Tests carried out in 1981 to 1985 showed that under Korean weather conditions, a layer of paddy 0.9 to 1.2 m thick can be dried with in 7 to 15 days from an initial moisture content of uo to 25% to safe storange conditions by continuous ventilation with ambient air. |
